Rosie & Roger welcome you to Gray's Farmhouse! We set out to run the kind of B&B that we ourselves would enjoy staying at, and it means a lot to us that our guests should leave feeling that they have been really well looked after in every possible way, and given all the suggestions they need to make the best of their time here and find the hidden delights of this lovely area. Compiling this website is part of our commitment to do all we can to help people plan their holiday successfully, whether or not they decide to stay with us. Since our arrival in 1996, apart from running the B&B, restoring and tending the house and grounds has been pretty much a full- time occupation for Roger, and one he finds deeply satisfying. By contrast he also enjoys drawing and writing. He and a small group of friends regularly read their work at the Beaminster Festival and he occasionally joins Rosie in exhibiting in the biennial Dorset Art Weeks.
Rosie meantime spends as much time as possible on her painting. She has particularly enjoyed the chance to paint frequently in France and several times in Morocco, though she also finds inspiration in the West Dorset landscape, with its deep sense of the past lying just beneath the surface. She teaches occasionally and exhibits regularly, and her paintings hang in homes in many parts of the world. Bertie joined us here soon after our arrival and much enjoys the attention he often receives from our guests, though he has learned to understand that not absolutely all of them are dog-lovers and that he must keep a fairly low profile until invited to do otherwise! He is a very gentle & placid dog and a number of children who have arrived feeling apprehensive about him have found getting to know him a real turning point. Dorset Art Weeks is again on the horizon and visitors in late May and early June will get to see a large collection of Rosie's latest work. |
