Directions for Printing

Directions from London, the North or East, via Maiden Newton & Toller Porcorum

From either A35 or the A303, find your way onto the A37, linking Dorchester and Yeovil, and then leave it for Maiden Newton. If coming from Dorchester, continue through village, or, if from Yeovil, turn right by the corner shop in the centre of the village, onto the A356. Conitnue NW towards Crewkerne for just under 2 miles, passing a left hand no-through road to Toller Fratrum. At the top of the hill beyond that take the next left turn, signposted Toller Porcorum. Wind down into the village. Ignore right turn, which, though less distance, is more complicated. Instead continue winding through village, passing phone box on left, over disused railway bridge, along lane lined with cottages and then uphill heading SW. Approximately a mile from the village center, turn right, signposted Powerstock and Hooke**. Within a few hundred yards you will go under a low disused bridge, then the road rises for 1/3 mile and just round a slight bend you come to a tiny unmarked cross-road, with a lane on right and our track on left, with signs in the hedgerow, as illustrated above.

Directions from the South West via Bridport, 8-9 miles away.

From Bridport take the A35 east towards Dorchester for about 3 miles. At the end of a cutting turn left, signposted Askerswell. This road does not go into the village itself but skirts it and then rises over the top of Eggardon Hill (with superb views over to south Devon.) Continue past right turnings to Dorchester, Maiden Newton and Toller Porcorum ( approx.5 miles) where you join the route above, at junction marked**

Directions from the North West via Beaminster 5-6 miles away.

From Beaminster take the B 3163 east, signposted Dorchester, and then, after approx. 2 miles, 2nd. right , signposted Hooke. Continue along this road past the entry to Hooke Woods. Eventually, after approx. 2 miles you will come to the top of a hill where 5 roads almost meet, including a right turn to Poorton and another a few yards on to Powerstock. (Mount Pleasant on sign post & map) Ignore these turnings and continue ahead about half a mile towards Toller Porcorum, until as the lane bends left you come to an unmarked tiny fork on your right with a sign warning of a low bridge ahead. This sign can sometimes get a bit obscured by foliage in the summer. Take this fork and after approx. a third of a mile you will come to a small unmarked cross-roads consisting of a lane on your left and our track on your right with signs in the hedgerow on either side, as illustrated on the website.

Directions from the West via Powerstock (always first right except for Wytherston Farm)

Leave Powerstock cross-roads with church on right, and wind up hill. After about a mile ignore right turn to Wytherston Farm only, but in every other case take first turning right, (i.e.at junction at top of hill after over 2 miles, (Mount Pleasant on map) turn right, then continue ahead about half a mile until as the lane bends left you come to an unmarked fork on your right with a sign warning of a low bridge ahead. This sign can get a bit obscured by foliage in the summer. Take this fork and after approx. a third of a mile you will come to a small unmarked cross-roads consisting of a lane on your left and our track on your right with signs on either side, as illustrated on the website).

Follow track to end and through 2 sets of gates to farmhouse on left.

PLEASE DRIVE VERY SLOWLY: CHILDREN AND PETS!

For AA Route Planner click above, but be aware that the the AA directions only take you to within about a mile of our house. Gray's Farmhouse is about a mile south-west of the post code reference point (Grid Ref. 542979)

If coming through Toller Porcorum, we are best approached using a different route, as in the directions above. See MAP for greater detail.
