Welcome to Gray's Farmhouse B&B, near Bridport

Chosen by “Country Living” for its very first selection of favourite Rural Retreats, Gray's Farmhouse has since featured in the “Sunday Telegraph” travel section and in “Dorset Magazine” as well as appearing in Alastair Sawday’s prestigious “Special Places to Stay”. Recently we gained 99% in the Mystery Shoppers' survey commissioned by the National Skills Academy- which we were told was the highest score awarded to date.

The farmhouse has stripped floors, massive flagstones, old oak beams, and in winter a blazing log fire welcomes you in the lovely dining room, a converted apple store that looks down to a stream.

Throughout the house the walls, painted in National Trust or hand-blended colours, are hung with Rosie's vibrant paintings, many of which are for sale.

 

As well as paintings everywhere there are English and Nigerian ceramics, hand-painted furniture, and the casts of medieval misericords -the latter made by our neighbour with superb craftsmanship.

BREAKFAST

Breakfast includes fresh fruit juices, fruit, fruit compote and yoghourts, a choice of breads including home-baked white and wholemeal with nuts & seeds, home-made preserves, croissants, scrambled egg with smoked salmon, locally smoked kippers, or English Breakfast using locally sourced food as much as possible.

On fine days guests are welcomed on arrival with tea and cake in the garden.

"BED"

The simply furnished bedrooms are deeply peaceful and have goose-down duvets*, Egyptian cotton sheets, and "en suite" bath or shower room. There is flat-sceen digital TV + DVD, with easy chairs, hot drinks tray, and water from our own spring that recent guests described as "ambrosia."

Adjoining the bedrooms there is a tiny "snug" with easy chairs that we have tried to set up with everything we can think of for your pleasure or convenience: ideally placed if you can't sleep at night. There's internet access, a fridge, basin, picnic things, iron & board, local guide books, maps, novels, magazines, copious information on local walks, activities and places to eat, radio, CDs, DVDs, cards, scrabble, chess and other games. We hope you will find something there to enhance you stay!

Everything is provided in an informal manner to help guests to feel as relaxed and truly welcomed as if they were visiting old friends.

"They add countless thoughtful touches, notably a small lounge equipped with custom walking and driving routes, OS maps, books, games, DVDs, toiletries (in case you left something at home), cafétieres, ground coffee and fresh milk in the fridge, and so on.
